The startup disk does not have enough space to be partitioned boot camp

When clicking continue on the initially Boot Camp screen, I am presented via a dialog that displays:

The startup disk does not have enough space to be partitioned.

You watching: The startup disk does not have enough space to be partitioned boot camp

You need to have at leastern 39 GB of free room available.

*

This is despite "About this Mac" reporting 271GB of totally free space:

*

And "Disk Utility" reporting 268GB of cost-free space:

*

Searching online I uncovered this reddit thread which suggested it was the outcome of Time Machine which i recently permitted and argues to run sudo tmutil thinlocalsnapshots / 999999999999 which I did, it ran sucessfully, and also I restarted, yet to no avail.

What is the solution to this instance of vivaworldcup.info"s poor engineering?

Running macOS High Sierra 10.13.4 (17E202)

Okay, the solution is that I did not disable Time Machine and rerelocate all backup drives initially. Doing that resolved the problem. So the complete solution is:

Disable "Back-up Up Automatically" in Time Machine System Preferrals, and remove all backup drives, such that it looks choose this:

*

Then run sudo tmutil thinlocalsnapshots / 999999999999

And attempt aacquire. Optionally rebegin the computer and also try aobtain.

In Mojave, what I had to execute was revolve off Time Machine and then run this command also to pressure clean out the regional snapshots:

tmutil thinlocalsnapshots / 1000000000 1wright here 1000000000 is the size of your drive and the "1" implies immediate. This has to be done a couple of times considering that it only cleans up a few local snapshots each time.

After that, you need to be able to check out enough space available via this command:

diskutil apfs resizecontainer disk0s2 limits
